The Borough of Carlisle is pleased to announce that the Carlisle Fire Department has been selected as a finalist by the Central Penn Business Journal and other sponsors in the “Management Operations” category of the “2014 Nonprofit Innovation Awards” for the originality and effectiveness of the Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention program. The winner will be announced at an awards breakfast on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Lancaster Marriott. The winning organization will receive a $2,000.00 grant and the runner-up will receive a $1,000.00 grant.
The Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment and Retention Program is a three year $136,100.00 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response. The grant has assisted the Carlisle Fire Department with recruiting volunteers through the design, printing and mailing of newsletters (two per year), display booth materials for use at presentations and television advertising. The grant has also assisted with the development of a mentor program for new volunteers, recruitment/retention team training and diversity training for the volunteers of the Carlisle Fire Department.
