On Saturday, May 18, 2024, The Borough of Carlisle will be administering an examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of police officer.

Testing Information:
  • The physical fitness and written examinations will be held at Carlisle High School, 623 West Penn Street, Carlisle, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
  • Applications and other required forms can be downloaded here, under Police Testing. They can also be picked up at the Carlisle Borough Police Department, 240 Lincoln Street, Carlisle, PA, or at Borough Hall, 53 West South Street, Carlisle, PA.
  • A non-refundable $20 application fee (check or money order, NO cash debit or credit card) payable to the Borough of Carlisle is due with each application. No application will be accepted without this fee.
  • Applications must be received by May 10, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or its equivalentDSC_0151 - Copy
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Valid driver's license

The Carlisle Borough Police Department is committed to community policing and maintaining a high quality of life throughout the Borough. The department has 33 sworn officers and 3 civilian staff serving a community with a population of approximately 20,000.

DUTIES OF A CARLISLE BOROUGH POLICE OFFICER

Duties include investigating crimes; enforcing state and local traffic laws; investigating accidents; preparing reports; taking appropriate actions including but not limited to arresting subjects, interviewing witnesses/victims, collecting evidence, and preparing cases for court. Opportunities include patrol, investigations, K-9, participation in County SWAT team, DOT inspections, and bike patrol. Patrol officers work a rotating shift that may include 8-12 hour shifts.
