Memorial Day
Memorial Day Virtual Remembrance Ceremony
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Carlisle Joint Veterans Council will have an annual Memorial Day Ceremony for Carlisle. Rather than a parade, the Council has created a 30-minute video presentation.
“We had little choice but to cancel this year’s Memorial Day parade,” said council president Kirk Wilson. “But we couldn’t let this solemn holiday pass without everyone having an opportunity to stop, if only for 30 minutes, to reflect on those who gave their lives in defense of this great country.”
This year's video ceremony will follow the format of similar years held at Veterans Memorial Courtyard on the Square in Carlisle and will include the three most solemn parts of previous ceremonies:
- The Memorial Day Message delivered this year by combat veteran Cong. Scott Perry.
- The Armed Forces Medley,
- The Reading of the Roll of Honor, a listing of Carlisle area veterans who died in the last year
- New this year: a special presentation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
The video will be available through Friday, May 29.
