K9 Pedro Looking Forward to Retirement
In the coming weeks, a veteran and beloved member of our department will be retiring. K9 Pedro will be hanging up his leash and settling into a life of leisure with his handler Corporal Kurtz's family.
While we wish Pedro well as he begins to take it easy and transition to life as an "old house pet," the search is on for his replacement. K9s like Pedro are valuable members of a police department. Properly trained police dogs can do the work of three or four of their human counterparts! The ideal dog will be between 13 to 18 months old. The dog will go through a five to six week training period, but it can be close to a year before the dog and handler fully bond.
We will be sure to update you on Pedro's pending retirement and the search for his replacement!
