Srebrenica Remembrance

At the July Borough Council Meeting, Council approved a resolution marking July 11 as Srebrenica Remembrance Day and recognizing the week of July 11 as Bosnia and Herzegovina Tribute Week in the Borough. Approximately 1,500 Bosnians live in Carlisle and the surrounding areas. Read the resolution.

Sunday, July 11, marks the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Over 8,000 Bosniak civilians were massacred, and over 30,000 were expelled from their homes in the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II.

On Sunday, The Bosniaks Islamic Cultural Center of Carlisle is hosting an event to remember and honor the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. The event begins at Linder Park, 629 West Louther Street, at 5:00 p.m. Members of the Cultural Center and the greater Carlisle community will speak. A solidarity walk will take place after the remarks to remember those Bosniak lives lost.

All in the community are welcome to attend this event and pay tribute to those lives lost.
