Tree Planting at Police Department

Corporal Jeff Kurtz of the Carlisle Borough Police Department recently noted the need for more trees at the department's facilities on Lincoln Street. The K9 training area, in particular, was lacking trees that could provide much-needed shade to our two K-9s, Chaos and Jackson. Corporal Kurtz enlisted Tiffany Strine, the Borough's MS4 Coordinator, and she was happy to help the department expand its urban tree canopy.

The two collaborated to identify the best locations to plant trees and then submitted a grant application to TreePennsylvania's Bare Root Tree Program. Our application was approved, and we received eleven bare-root trees! Members of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and National Resources and TreeVitalize traveled to Carlisle on Friday and helped plant the trees.

As the trees grow, Tiffany will monitor their progress through OpenTreeMap. This website will show the benefits of the trees to our environment, including the amount of energy conserved, stormwater filtered, and carbon dioxide removed from the air.
