Borough Utility Customers Can Apply for State Assistance

Borough Council recently approved an agreement between the Borough and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) to allow the Borough to participate in the Low-Income Housing Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP). Participating in the program allows the Borough to provide residents who have fallen behind on their utility bills another resource to help pay their bills.

LIHWAP It provides grants of up to $2,500 for past due water balances and up to $2,500 for past due sewer balances. DHS will administer the program, with Borough staff supplying customer account balances to DHS.

In addition to LIHWAP, homeowners with past-due accounts can utilize the Borough's Homeowner Public Utility Assistance Program, which offers up to three months of utility aid. All past-due utility customers are also strongly encouraged to contact the Borough's Finance Department to discuss entering into a flexible payment agreement.
