The TRC was established by Resolution 03-11-2021-01 enacted by Carlisle Borough Council on March 11, 2021, and became effective on May 25, 2021, at their first meeting. The Commission was born out of a community town hall on racial equity held on January 16, 2021, where statistical data was shared and over 100 individuals highlighted issues of racial inequity in the Borough.
The TRC's mission is to improve racial justice and racial equity by meeting our community where it is and engaging it in truth-telling and reconciliation, to examine existing policies as well as past and present practices and structures that contribute to systemic racism, and to develop guidance for Borough officials about next steps for making our community more just and equitable through accountability and transformative change.
