Reminder: Please Only Flush Toilet Paper

We want to remind you to only flush toilet paper, not disinfecting wipes or other non-flushable items that should be disposed of in the trash.

Napkins, paper towels, and wipes (even those that say they are "flushable") are not designed to go down the toilet. These items do not break down the way toilet paper does and they can cause sewer backups both at your home and at our wastewater treatment plant. Our wastewater treatment plant staff have been seeing an increase of these wipes in our system.

While we encourage disinfecting your environment to prevent the spread of COVID-19, never flush disinfecting wipes or other non-flushable items. Preventable toilet and sewer backups can pose a threat to human health and present an extra challenge to our water resources staff. Flushing anything other than toilet paper, including disinfecting wipes, can damage internal plumbing, sewer systems, and septic systems. Fixing these backups is costly and takes time and resources away from ensuring that our wastewater management systems are otherwise working properly.
