Bird Town PennsylvaniaBird Town Pennsylvania works in partnership with local municipalities and like-minded organizations to promote community-based conservation actions to create a healthier, more sustainable environment for birds, wildlife, and people.

The program provides tools and resources for municipalities to engage, educate and empower their residents, schools and businesses to make more positive ecologically friendly decisions and promotes a culture of conservation where everyone is a potential steward of nature in their own backyard and beyond.

Restoration of natural systems and native plant communities for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, on both private and public lands, has positive impacts on our communities including creating a healthier environment, reducing stormwater runoff, greenhouse gases and maintenance time, increasing property values and building community pride.

Birds play a crucial role in our environment and community. They help control insect populations, pollinate plants, and disperse seeds. Oftentimes birds serve as indicators for overall environmental health. Birds also help people connect. Bird-related events create opportunities for people to engage with one another and learn about wildlife.
Since we enjoy the presence of birds, it is only logical that we want to help the birds so they can survive in our changing world. Birds have lost much of their natural food sources and natural protection due to construction of housing, highways and industrial properties. Through small everyday changes we can help our bird population to thrive in our community!
By helping our bird buddies, we improve our natural world and expand our options for bird watching. Here are some ideas to get started:
  • Buy some binoculars, and a birding guide
  • Utilize the “Birds of Carlisle” pamphlet to identify different types of native birds
  • Keep records using a journal to track when and what birds you see
  • Attend community birding events
  • Support Bird Town Carlisle as we continue to make Carlisle a haven for the birds that make our lives so full
