On Thursday, May 10th 2018, Carlisle Mayor Tim Scott issued the following statement:

Last Wednesday, representatives from Greenwood Gaming (operator of Parx Casino, Bensalem PA) gave a presentation on their company as well as benefits of locating a new Category 4 “Mini-casino” in the Borough of Carlisle. Members of the public as well as Council members asked questions in a robust back and forth that allowed all voices (pro and con) to be heard.

Borough staff also heard from numerous Borough residents, business leaders and other elected officials via email and on social media regarding the merits of the gaming industry and the implications it could have for our community.

After individual discussions with my colleagues, it has become clear that gaming and the gaming industry is complex and multi-layered with good and bad examples of operators across the country. There are also numerous studies that demonstrate positive and negative effects of gaming on communities.

That being said, as of this date, Borough Council has reached no consensus on moving forward with approval and also have no immediate plans to take up this issue at future meetings.

We continue to hear from residents (pro and con) and our government, business and institutional partners.

We will continue to have an open process regarding any deliberations and public comment is always encouraged and welcome. But right now, it’s just a topic of discussion.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the residents who participated in the process by sharing data, analysis and articles and also my colleagues on Council for their thoughtful comments.  I would also like to thank Greenwood Gaming for taking the time to make their presentation and for answering questions from the community.
