MAYOR SCOTT Declares November 30, 2019,
Small Business Saturday to Support and Celebrate Local Small Businesses
CARLISLE, PA November 25, 2019 – Carlisle Mayor Tim Scott today announced his endorsement of and participation in the tenth annual Small Business Saturday on November 30, 2019. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting the independent businesses that make our communities unique and provide valuable contributions to our economy.
“I encourage folks in the Carlisle region to join me and celebrate small businesses everywhere, but especially here in Downtown Carlisle. Shopping small not only supports the places we love, but it also supports and makes special our unique community. Today, the Borough of Carlisle joins in a national effort to help America’s small businesses do what they do best – grow their business, create jobs, and ensure our communities remain as vibrant tomorrow as they are today,” Mayor Scott said.
Created in 2010, Small Business Saturday serves as the ceremonial kickoff to the holiday shopping season for small businesses across the United States. In 2018, U.S. shoppers reported spending an estimated $17.8 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on the day, according to the American Express Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey.1 In addition, the 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study2 from American Express found that an average two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent at small businesses in the U.S. stays in the local community, meaning consumers’ local impact during the important holiday shopping season could be significant.
In recognizing the importance of supporting independent businesses in Carlisle, Mayor Scott:
- Plans to #ShopSmall on November 30th in Downtown Carlisle and invites Carlisle residents to join him.
- Announced a Mayoral Proclamation at the November 14th meeting of Borough Council proclaiming November 30, 2019 as “Small Business Saturday”, urging residents to support small business and merchants throughout the year.
- Supports the efforts of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s local office in Shippensburg, PA, Carlisle Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Carlisle Association, and Destination Carlisle in recognizing the entrepreneurs who enrich our community.
- Calls on residents to share the small businesses that they love on social media using #LoveCarlisle, #ShopSmall and/or #SmallBizSat
