Road Maintenance
The Borough maintains a transportation system of approximately 57 miles of roads and 18 miles of alleys. Each year, our Field Operations department focuses on preservation treatments of existing roads, including crack sealing, base repairs, and pothole repairs.

Annual Street Improvement Project
Each year, the Borough undertakes a program to maintain its roadway network, using a variety of road surface treatments depending on a road segment’s physical condition and priority ranking. Treatments have ranged from crack sealing to base repair, micro surfacing, ultra-thin bonded wearing course application, overlay paving, and surface milling and repaving. Generally, milling and paving is performed at the end of the road’s surface pavement life.
The work under the 2025 project consists of milling 1.5 inches of existing paving material and paving hot-mixed asphalt to a compacted depth of 1.5 inches over designed Borough streets, in accordance with the Contract Specifications, using material provided by the contractor.

PennDOT Project - East High Street
PennDOT has plans to resurface East High Street from East Street to Army Heritage Drive and York Road from the split to just past Giant Lane. Before that, the Borough will be replacing water mains along East High Street. By coordinating with PennDOT, we can ensure that our underground infrastructure is complete ahead of its paving, preventing the need to disturb newly finished roads and maximizing the value of both projects.
We will share any future updates on this project as soon as we receive them from PennDOT.
