Apartment Fire Update
On Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 5:43 PM, the Carlisle Fire Department, along with the Carlisle Barracks Fire Department, was dispatched to 5 Northside Lane (Northside Village Apartments) in Carlisle Borough for a reported apartment Fire. Units arrived to find fire on the second-floor patio area that extended past the fourth floor onto the roof. An additional alarm was requested for additional resources. Water supply was provided to the Aerial Ladder to knock down the exterior fire while firefighters advanced hose lines into the building to contain the fire to the area of origin. Sprinklers helped control the exterior fire from advancing into the hallways. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.
Residents in the parking lot noticed the fire and pulled the fire alarm alerting the occupants of an emergency, while another resident knocked on neighbors’ doors to assist in the evacuation prior to fire department’s arrival. This helped make for a quick and safe evacuation of the building.
Residents were evacuated to Homewood Suites by Hilton of Carlisle, where accountability of residents, as well as their immediate needs, was addressed by the Cumberland County Incident Management Team. Approximately 130 residents were evacuated, with 50 needing temporary housing, which the American Red Cross provided. The Carlisle Fire Department appreciates all those who worked with the displaced residents and extends a special thank you to Homewood Suites for allowing us to use their facility as a temporary shelter. Your compassion was very much appreciated. A restoration Company is on scene conducting cleanup of water and smoke damage. It is unknown at this time how long residents will be displaced.
One resident was injured while removing immediate necessities after the scene was declared safe. They were transported to Carlisle Hospital for evaluation. No emergency service personnel were injured.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Carlisle Fire Department and Carlisle Police Department and was declared accidental.
