Fire Hydrant Flushing
Our Water Resources Department will conduct fire hydrant testing and flushing beginning Sunday, April 21. The hydrants will be flushed between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. to keep disruption to the water system and traffic concerns to a minimum.
Why do we do this? Hydrant flushing ensures adequate water flow is available to firefighters, residents, and businesses. It also improves water quality by cleaning out mineral deposits from the mains.
Between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., you may experience a slight discoloration of your tap water. We hope to keep this to a minimum, but sometimes it is unavoidable! If you experience this, allow the water to run for 5 to 10 minutes and it should clear up. If the problem persists, give us a call at 717-240-6980 during normal business hours.
Weather permitting, hydrant flushing will wrap up on Friday, April 26.
